Did you know that all tea comes from a single plant? &#xA0;The tea plant (camellia sinensis sinensis)&#xA0;is transformed into black, green, white, oolong and pu-erh tea depending on how it is grown, harvested and treated. &#xA0;While there are also two less common varietals of camellia sinensis - assamica and cambodiensis - the large majority of time your cup of tea will stem from the sinensis varietal. &#xA0;All tea naturally contains caffeine as it&apos;s one of the few botanicals to produce the chemical.&#xA0; Hence, when people say &apos;herbal tea&apos; it&apos;s actually an oxymoron. &#xA0;That&apos;s why we prefer the term &apos;tisane&apos; for all our teas that are&#xA0;<a href="https://www.artoftea.com/collections/caffeine-free" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">caffeine-free</a>. &#xA0;Tisane is simply a general French translation of herbal. &#xA0;Rooibos, chamomile or mint tend to be the base for most tisanes but our tisanes also incorporate other rich botanicals such as hibiscus, honeybush, ginger root, cinnamon, marshmallow leaf and more.
