What is the difference between a tea and tisane?Updated a year ago

Did you know that all tea comes from a single plant?  The tea plant (camellia sinensis sinensis) is transformed into black, green, white, oolong and pu-erh tea depending on how it is grown, harvested and treated.  While there are also two less common varietals of camellia sinensis - assamica and cambodiensis - the large majority of time your cup of tea will stem from the sinensis varietal.

All tea naturally contains caffeine as it's one of the few botanicals to produce the chemical.  Hence, when people say 'herbal tea' it's actually an oxymoron.  That's why we prefer the term 'tisane' for all our teas that are caffeine-free.  Tisane is simply a general French translation of herbal.  Rooibos, chamomile or mint tend to be the base for most tisanes but our tisanes also incorporate other rich botanicals such as hibiscus, honeybush, ginger root, cinnamon, marshmallow leaf and more.
