Our Pyramid Teabag Sachets: What They're Made Of and How to Dispose of ThemUpdated 6 hours ago

What are Art of Tea's pyramid teabags made of?

Our Eco Pyramid Teabag Sachets are made from Soilon, a 100% plant and vegetable-based material. Technically, Soilon is PLA (polylactic acid), which is derived from corn and other renewable plant sources. Third-party testing has confirmed the sachets contain no PET plastic and no nylon.

Are the sachets plastic-free?

The sachets contain no petroleum-based plastic (no PET, no nylon). PLA is a plant-derived bioplastic, so if a customer asks "is there plastic in the bag," the accurate answer is: the bag is made from corn-based PLA, not conventional plastic, and it is commercially compostable.

How are the sachets sealed? Do they have staples or glue?

No staples and no glue. The sachets are ultrasonically sealed using sound-wave technology, so nothing is added to hold the bag together.

Can I compost the sachets?

Yes, in a commercial or industrial composting facility. PLA is 100% commercially compostable and can go in green or food-waste bins where industrial composting is available. Commercial facilities run hotter than a backyard pile, so we recommend customers check for a local commercial composting program. We do not claim the sachets will fully break down in a home compost pile.

What's inside the sachets?

Full-leaf tea, the same whole-leaf tea we sell loose. The pyramid shape gives the leaves room to expand and lets water circulate freely so the flavor fully releases. We do not use fannings or dust.

Where are the sachets made?

All sachets are produced in-house at our Los Angeles facility.
